Fluorescent Light to LED Conversion Kit


Fluorescent lights have excellent light output but their bulbs and ballasts can be tempermental and operation in cold weather environments is especially difficult. Fluorescent bulbs contain mercury and should be disposed of properly. If you've grown tired of fluorescent maintenance, consider the Fluorescent to LED conversion kit below.

The article describes the steps to convert a Command Electronics 005-395 light to LED but the general idea would be the same for other brands of lights. Just make sure you have the space for three 2.8" x 3" boards.

Almost as Bright as a 30 Watt Fluorescent Light
Each of the 30 LED boards delivers 510 lumens for a total of 1,530 lumens directed where you need them. This assembly is brighter than a 30 watt fluorescent light when first turned on. After about a 15 minute warm-up period, the fluorescent light is slightly brighter.

Much Cooler Temperatures for Increased Camping Comfort
Even fluorescents are no match for the efficiency of modern LED lights. After the LED conversion, temperatures at the lens dropped by 44ºF. Electrical current draw is about the same as the fluorescent fixture.
